Q: My child has never done dance/martial arts/musical theater/cheerleading/music before. How do we get started?
First, explore the programs tab and the various programs. You’ll see a video clip on each page and that will give you a general idea of what each program is like. Then, call our front desk at 254-1962 to discuss schedule options and to set up a free trial class. The trial class will be the best way to get a feel for what class will be the best fit for your child.
Q: What should my child wear to their trial class?
While many classes do have a dress code, we don’t expect parents go buy dance shoes or a karate uniform until you know the class is a good fit for your child. Here are some general recommendations for what to wear to a trial class.
Dance/Cheer/Tumbling- hair pulled back (bun for ballet). If your child doesn’t have dance clothes, solid colored t-shirt or tank and cotton shorts or leggings are fine. Socks are fine too to try a class.
Martial Arts- Comfy sweats (no jeans, or anything with buckles or zippers), bare feet. Girls should wear their hair back.
Musical Theater/Music/Parent&Child- Just dress comfortable. No special attire required.
Q: You offer so many different programs, do you offer family discounts if I enroll more than one child at Expressions?
Yes, our family discounts are a major benefit (on top of convenience and saving time driving each week) of enrolling your child in more than one class at Expressions or enrolling multiple children. The way our tuition works is that only the FIRST class of the FIRST family member is set at full price. Any additional classes added by that child, or any other family members, goes down on a sliding tuition scale…as low as $20/mo!
Q: You offer so many different classes in one place. How can I be sure my child is getting quality instruction in each of the different programs?
The way we maintain each program’s personal identity and integrity is by having a top-notch teaching staff. Each instructor is an expert in their specific field. All of our instructors have many years of experience, and most have degrees, credentials or professional performing experience as well. Click on the “About Us” tab, then “Teacher Bios” to learn more about our instructors. You can also see interviews with specific teachers by visiting each of our program pages under the “Programs” tab.
Q: We have friends that go to Expressions, but they are there several days a week! What if my child is new to Expressions and is just starting out in your classes?
We offer programs for all ages and levels. We have recreational classes for kids who may be very involved in a seasonal sport and can only attend classes for a couple months out of the year. Our recreational classes are also good for kids who are “taste testing” a couple different programs. We have school-year length programs such as our performing art programs in dance, musical theater or music. These programs are set up to follow the school year and end with an on-stage performance at the end of the year. Most of our students are at this level, taking 1-2 classes per week or more. We also have competition and demo teams for our various programs. These programs are for kids who LOVE what they do and it’s their primary extra-curricular activity. These programs tend to require 3 or more days of practice as well as a higher level of commitment.
Q: My daughter (or son) is just starting out and is in middle school, is it too late for them to start? Or will they have to be in a class with 8 year olds?
First, it’s NEVER too late to learn something new and exciting! Secondly, classes are set up by both age AND ability in many of our various programs. Even an 12 or 13 year-old can join a beginning level class with students their own age. Call our front desk for class recommendations specific to your child. 254-1962
